Houston Vocations

Inviting Catholics to Discover Their Purpose

The Mission

Houston Vocations believes that God has called every person to some definite purpose. Their passionate team helps young people discover that purpose and follow his lead.

The Problem

Catholics in general, and young men in particular, are disconnected from the Vocations office… if they are even aware of it. It’s hard to form the bonds of connection necessary to provide the spiritual coaching involved in vocational discernment when the Vocations Director is only one man in a diocese of 1.7 million Catholics.

Houston Vocations needed help adding a heightened level of design and marketing strategy to their communication efforts to connect their office with the people they exist to serve.

The Solution

First, we worked together to define their brand messaging and refresh their visual brand. This foundational piece of their brand strategy helped to clarify the Houston Vocations message and approach.

Next, 5 Stones collaborated with the Archdiocese to construct a 12-month strategic marketing plan, complete with digital advertising, enhanced event graphics, a website audit to deploy the new brand messaging guidelines, an enhanced media kit for parishes, and a new retreat resource for seminary candidates.

The “You’d be a great…” campaign coordinated efforts between the vocations office, parishes, and 5 Stones to create the first multi-faceted marketing campaign in Houston Vocations history. Young men in and around the archdiocese saw ads on their favorite social media platforms, reinforced later by a print piece in the back of their local parish.

The 9-Day Challenge is a custom-built retreat program that invites earnest discerners in the archdiocese to give their lives entirely to God for nine days and see what God does. While the retreat participants go about their regular, everyday responsibilities, they make daily and weekly sacrifices, commit to daily spiritual reading and prayers, and attend group meetings to check in with other participants. 5 Stones consulted with Houston Vocations to create the entire program, from the initial inception to the writing and design of the retreat guidebook.

The Results

Our collaborative efforts increased awareness among young adults in the archdiocese of all that Houston Vocations has to offer in support of their discernment and pursuit of God’s will for their lives. Now, empowered with a deeper communications toolkit, the Vocations Office is ready to reach and accompany more young people than ever before, inviting each one to discover the exciting, purpose-filled life Jesus has in store for them.
